UKEMS - the society concerned with the following questions:

UKEMS is the UK branch of the European Environmental Mutagen Society (EEMS), representing scientists involved in research on genetic damage caused by environmental agents (chemicals and radiation). It encompasses academic research into mechanisms and consequences of DNA damage, DNA repair and mutagenesis, and applications of this knowledge to the testing of novel pharmaceutical, industrial and agricultural chemicals for genotoxic effects. The emphasis is on effects on humans, but a topic of growing interest is the impact of genotoxic agents on organisms other than man - a field known as ecogenotoxicology.
